Cellcom reportedly in talks with IEC over broadband trials

11 Nov 2009

Israeli mobile network operator Cellcom is reportedly in talks with the Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) regarding the possibility of collaborating on a trial of internet services over the latter’s fibre-optic network, according to Globes Online. The claims come after IEC recently called off similar talks with Cellcom’s wireless rival Partner Communications, after Partner said it was unwilling to finance such trials on its own. Israel’s Minister of Communications, Moshe Kahlon, has said that he would support a move to use IEC’s infrastructure to offer telecoms services, as it would enhance competition in the sector.
