6 Nov 2009

According to Belgian daily De Tijd, citing several unnamed sources, KPN is considering the sale of its fibre network and business-customer unit in Belgium. According to the newspaper, on a shortlist of potential buyers are cableco Telenet and corporate telecoms outfit Colt Telecom. KPN has so far declined to comment. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, KPN completed a EUR108 million buyout of Tele2/Versatel in Belgium in September 2009. Business services formerly provided by Versatel were rebranded as KPN Belgium, while residential voice and data services continue to be offered under the Tele2 name. KPN also owns BASE, the smallest wireless network operator by subscribers in Belgium.
