Opal grabs UK Telco in quick deal

5 Nov 2009

Opal Telecom, the business division of British telco Carphone Warehouse (CPW), has announced the acquisition of West Midland-based fixed line operator UK Telco, Mobile News reports. UK Telco already has an existing wholesale relationship with Opal, and operates in a similar fashion, offering fixed and mobile services to independent resellers. The deal follows two similar acquisitions by Opal over the course of the last year, with the CPW unit having bought fixed line and VoIP companies The Airtime Group and V Networks. Commenting on the latest purchase, Andy Hollingworth, director of Opal, said: ‘This is another example of Opal acquiring a partner where we have built [a] really strong long term relationship. Importantly when it was the right time for the owners to exit, Opal was able to quickly agree a deal, provide a good home for the customer base and continue to offer support to UK Telco’s channel partners.’ No financial details of the deal have been disclosed.
