Copaco pushes back mobile plans

5 Nov 2009

Paraguay’s state-owned telecoms firm Copaco now expects to launch mobile services by end-2010, BNamericas reports, citing company president Marco Esquivel. As reported by CommsUpdate on 14 July, then-company president Jose Astigarraga had previously announced that the telco was in the process of acquiring 200 base stations for the network rollout, with the aim of launching services by the end of 2009. However, Esquivel has reportedly said that Copaco is still defining rules for the equipment contract tender, and now expects to launch mobile and mobile broadband services by year-end 2010. Both services will be offered under the ‘Copacel’ brand.
