O2 HSPA+ network goes live in Munich

Telefonica O2 Germany has announced the launch of its mobile HSPA+ data network in the city of Munich. Initially only the operator’s customers in the central and western region of the city, as well as the area around the Marienplatz, will be able to test the mobile broadband network via ‘Surfstick’ hardware provided by Chinese equipment vendor Huawei. The company says that subscribers in these areas will be able to access the internet at download speeds of up to 28Mbps and upload speeds of 5.76Mbps. Andrea Folgueiras, CTO of Telefonica O2 Germany, said that the company has invested some EUR3.5 billion (USD5.16 billion) in its network infrastructure in recent years.
