Softbank's net income doubles as costs fall

30 Oct 2009

Softbank Corp has revealed that its net income for the second quarter ending 30 September more than doubled year-on-year, reaching JPY43.4 billion (USD481 million). Sales were largely flat at JPY682.9 billion. The company explained that falling costs at its mobile unit was the main reason for the figures, as well as its mobile operations gradually forming a larger part of its overall business. Softbank, which boasts exclusive rights to sell the Apple iPhone in Japan, said that wireless services now accounted for 57% of its business, compared to 48% at this time last year.
