Far East Telecom, a regional incumbent service provider and part of the Svyazinvest group, has reportedly selected VocalTec as the equipment provider for its upcoming Voice-over-IP (VoIP) network, TMC.net reports. The deployment is part of Far East Telecom’s plan to transform its network to a core IP network and is the first stage of its migration plan. In this phase, the company will deploy VocalTec’s ‘Essentra’ Class-5 and Class-4 VoIP solutions across five distributed locations as well as providing initial support for thousands of subscribers. According to company officials, the project will be implemented in conjunction with Inline Telecom, a systems integrator in Russia. Alexander Pototsky, chief technology officer of Far East Telecom, said that VocalTec’s VoIP systems should allow them to quickly offer new services and stay ahead of competition.
