Chunghwa Telecom has reported net profit of TWD10.9 billion (USD336.56 million) for the third quarter of 2009, a 17.9% year-on-year decline. Revenues for the three months ended 30 September 2009 dropped marginally to TWD50.1 billion, down from TWD50.9 billion a year earlier. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) and operating profit for the quarter decreased by 3.6% and 2.9% year-on-year to TWD23.2 billion and TWD14.2 billion respectively. The declining results came despite a 1.3% drop in operating costs, down to TWD35.9 million for the three months ended 30 September 2009. Chunghwa added 165,000 net new customers to its FTTx customer base in the reporting period, giving it a total of 1.51 million, compared to 1.34 million three months earlier. However, ADSL subscribers decreased by 161,000 to 2.8 million quarter-over-quarter. As of 30 September 2009, Chunghwa had 9.18 million mobile subscribers, up by 1.6% compared to 9.04 million at the end of June 2009, while it also added 384,000 3G customers over the three month period to end September 2009 with 4.49 million customers subscribed to third generation plans.
