Dark fibre contract to be awarded in January 2010

According to BNamericas, Mexico’s communications and transport ministry, the SCT, has launched a public consultation period on the planned auction of two strands of dark fibre owned by state power company CFE. The winning company would use the dark fibre to offer internet services. The deadline for comments is 6 November, while final bidding rules are set to be published in mid-November and the contract awarded in January 2010. The dark fibre consists of 295 existing segments that total 19,647km, and 34 complementary segments measuring 1,739km, the latter of which are due to be built by the winner of the auction.
