Movilnet customers reach 13m, hits target early

The president of state-run Venezuelan cellco Movilnet, Jacqueline Faria, has announced that its subscriber base reached 13 million users by the end of September 2009, achieving a target for the year three months early. The company claimed that it now has a 45% share of the 28 million-plus mobile subscriptions in the country. There were 28.3 million active mobile accounts in Venezuela by end-June 2009, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, giving a cellular penetration of just over 100%. Movilnet had 44.5% of the total, ahead of Spanish-owned Movistar with 38% and domestically-run Digitel with the remainder.
