Bernama is reporting that Malaysian fixed line incumbent Telekom Malaysia™ is on track to launch commercial services over the in-deployment High Speed Broadband network (HSBB) by the end of 1Q 2010. The telco is aiming to have the infrastructure open to residential users in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Bangsar, Subang Jaya and Shah Alam by that date, and trials are scheduled to start next month, with approximately 150 households signed up to test the network. A further 300 properties will join the trials in January 2010.
TM has also revealed that the Malaysian government has reimbursed it MYR665 million (USD196 million) for the work it has completed thus far; the payments cover expenditure for work on the HSBB access infrastructure and HSBB IP core deployment and international links capacity expansion . TM said it has completed work in four exchanges, while work is in progress at a further 44 exchanges; at launch a total of 95 exchanges are expected to be covered under the HSBB’s initial rollout.
