23 Oct 2009

Indonesia’s second largest telecoms operator PT Indosat said third-quarter net income climbed 6.1% year-on-year despite a fall in its mobile user base. The operator, controlled by Qatar’s Qtel, reported 28.7 million cellular subscribers as at 30 September 2009, down 19.2% from 35.5 million in the corresponding year earlier period; Indosat had 28.9 million subscribers as at 30 June this year. In a statement however, the company’s president and CEO Harry Sasongko said: ‘Even though our customer base dropped almost 20% compared to last year, our cellular revenue showed an improvement.’ Net profits for the three-month period under review climbed to IDR442.8 billion (USD47 million) from IDR417.3 billion previously, although revenues dipped 6.8% to IDR4.49 trillion.
