Green Packet tipped to win Singapore WiMAX licence

23 Oct 2009

Malaysia-listed WiMAX developer Green Packet has reportedly entered into an agreement with PacNet in Singapore to take over the latter’s dormant Facilities-Based Operator (FBO) licence. Under the deal, which is being reported by PRNewswire Asia, PacNet will transfer its FBO licence and its associated Wireless Broadband Access (WBA) spectrum rights to Green Packet’s newly incorporated company, Packet One Pte Limited (or P1 Singapore). It is understood that the transfer of the WBA spectrum will not impair PacNet’s facilities-based operations in Singapore as the company still holds all the necessary licences to operate its core businesses in the SME, Enterprise and Carrier space. The transfer of the FBO licence and WBA spectrum rights is however, subject to final approval from the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA).
