Unitymedia speeds ahead with 120Mbps broadband

German regional cableco Unitymedia has announced plans to launch what it calls Germany’s fastest internet flat rate for residential customers on 2 November. The company’s cable customers in Cologne and Aachen will be able to access the internet at download speeds of up to 120Mbps and 5Mbps upload. In order to reach such speeds, Unitymedia is implementing the EuroDOCSIS 3.0 standard over its cable network; ‘The introduction of the EuroDOCSIS 3.0 standard not only opens up a completely new performance dimension for data transmission, but also completely new possibilities for our customers and the media industry as a whole,’ commented Unitymedia’s CEO, Parm Sandhu. The Cologne-based company currently offers triple-play packages bundling digital TV, telephony and internet with download speeds of up to 32Mbps. Unitymedia will announce the technical details and prices of its latest offering at launch at the start of November.
