Unitech adds ZTE to list of GSM rollout vendors

15 Oct 2009

Yet-to-launch Indian cellco Unitech Wireless, which is 49% owned by Norwegian telecoms group Telenor, has announced that it has selected Chinese vendor ZTE to provide and install GSM systems and network equipment in three circles, Reuters reports. Under the five-year agreement, ZTE will carry out the infrastructure rollout across the circles of Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana. No financial terms of the deal were disclosed.

This is the second high-profile hardware deal that Unitech has signed this week, having announced earlier this week that it had selected Finland’s Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) to carry out the rollout in six circles. The cellco is expected to launch commercially by the end of 2009.
