T-Com and T-Mobile to merge next year

15 Oct 2009

Slovakian incumbent fixed line provider Slovak Telekom (ST) and cellco T-Mobile Slovensko will be merged into a single company in 2010 as part of a wider strategy by their German parent Deutsche Telekom (DT) to consolidate its wireline and wireless businesses. The move has already received local shareholder approval, and initial preparation for the merger is expected to begin soon. T-Com, the main brand name of ST, will be retained, as will the T-Mobile name. The mobile unit is currently a wholly owned subsidiary of ST, itself 51%-owned by DT, with the remainder held by the Slovak government.
