Vietnamese mobile operator GTel Mobile, which provides services under the Beeline brand, has announced that one million of its SIM cards have been activated since the company launched operations in July 2009. The cellco added that it has so far distributed over two million SIM cards since the same date. ‘This figure of one million subscribers, which shows the Vietnamese consumers’ trust in Beeline, is very significant for us. This has proven Beeline’s constant efforts to bring about a world mobile network with the best quality and the best prices,’ commented Alexey Blyumin, general director of GTel Mobile. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, GTel is owned by Vietnamese state-owned vehicles Global Telecommunications Corporation (51%) and GTEL TSC (9%), and Russian mobile group Vimpelcom (40%). At launch, the company’s network currently covered 15 million people in the cities of Hanoi, HCM City and Da Nang, but has since been expanded to cover 26% of the population across eight provinces.
