Telcos announce September results; Chunghwa net profit down 19.3%

Incumbent operator Chunghwa Telecom has announced unaudited net profit of TWD10.92 billion (USD338.8 million) for the three months ended 30 September 2009, down 19.3% from TWD13.54 billion in the same period a year earlier. Revenues declined marginally year-on-year, from TWD46.69 billion to TWD46.29 billion. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) fell to TWD22.65 billion by the end of September 2009, down 5.3% from TWD23.93 billion a year earlier. Chunghwa has announced that it will release its operational results for the period on 30 October.

Meanwhile, Taiwan Mobile has also seen a decline in its business over the year with net income for the year to date (January to end-September) falling from TWD12.23 billion in 2008, to TWD10.37 billion a year later. Revenues for the nine months ended 30 September 2009 were TWD51.59 billion, while the firm reported EBITDA of TWD21.86 billion, down from TWD52.36 billion and TWD23.01 billion respectively.

Rival cellco Far EasTone (FET) has reported revenues of TWD45.29 billion in the nine months ended 30 September, down from TWD47.45 billion for the same period a year earlier. Net profit fell by TWD763 million year-on-year, to TWD6.98 billion for the year to date.
