Alegro gets Venezuela's CANTV on board

12 Oct 2009

Ecuadorian state-controlled mobile operator Telecsa (Alegro PCS) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Venezuelan government-owned telco CANTV to form a strategic alliance, the cellco’s president Augusto Espin told BNamericas. The agreement, amongst a series of cooperation agreements between the two countries, comes as a result of Alegro’s search for an international strategic partner, which had also attracted interest from Uruguay’s Antel and Indonesia’s Telkom. Espin said that Alegro expects CANTV to invest in the company and also transfer knowledge to help improve the struggling operator’s services. Alegro expects the strategic agreement to be signed by the end of the year.
