TU SR deregulates wholesale fixed transmission market

8 Oct 2009

The Telecommunications Office of the Slovak Republic (TU SR), in a decision on 2 October 2009 (published 6 October), has abolished all obligations previously imposed on incumbent PSTN operator Slovak Telekom for wholesale transmission services in the fixed public telephone network. TU SR found that there was no remaining cause to subject the market to ex ante (‘before-the-event’) regulation, as there were no substantial barriers to new entrants, a decision supported by the Antimonopoly Office and the European Commission. Services covered by the decision include transfer of voice calls and internet traffic in the fixed public telephone network.
