Corporacion America in alliance talks for TI’s Argentina stake

Argentine investment group Corporacion America is negotiating a strategic alliance with Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim to acquire Telecom Italia’s (TI’s) 50% stake in Sofora, the holding company that controls Argentine incumbent telco Telecom Argentina, BN Americas reports. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, a number of parties have so far expressed an interest in acquiring TI’s stake in Sofora, which is valued in the region of USD500 million. These include: Grupo America, Grupo Clarin, Grupo Roman, Carlos Slim, who owns mobile company America Movil, Brazilian group Andrade Gutierrez and most recently private equity outfit Pegasus Group and triple-play operator Telecentro.
