Dutch shorts: Priority to become UPC Business, Tele2 completes T-Mobile switch

7 Oct 2009

UPC Nederlands is renaming its business services unit Priority as UPC Business Nederland from 1 January 2010, Telecompaper reports. The move marks the full integration of the telephony, data and internet access provider into the cableco’s operations.

In a separate story, the Netherlands’ largest mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) by subscribers, Tele2 Netherlands, says it has completed its switch from KPN’s to T-Mobile Netherlands’ network. In a statement, Tele2 Netherlands confirmed that all its customers had been successfully migrated and that the old network is no longer accessible to Tele2 customers. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Tele2 announced the signing of an agreement with T-Mobile for the use of its GSM and W-CDMA networks in February this year. ‘We are very pleased with the agreement which gives Tele2 improved margins on an already profitable market. The agreement also allows us to continue to offer high quality products and at the same time ensure our price leading position,’ said Tele2 President and CEO Harri Koponen at the time of the announcement. The company entered the Dutch market in 2001, and ended 2008 with 458,000 mobile customers, 112,000 fewer than at the start of the year.
