Fujitsu to produce LTE terminal for DoCoMo

2 Oct 2009

Fujitsu has issued a press release saying that it had been selected by NTT DoCoMo as a vendor for developing a mobile data communications terminal based on LTE technology. In July 2009 Japan’s leading mobile operator by subscribers said it aims to roll out Long Term Evolution (LTE) services in 2010, and reportedly plans to spend between USD3.1 billion and USD4.2 billion during the next five years on the technology. DoCoMo will decide in 2010 who to choose as its supplier of LTE technology, but last month it was reported that Ericsson’s head of radio networks, Ulf Ewaldsson, had said that the vendor has several ongoing LTE trials with operators including DoCoMo, and hinted it could be selected as the cellco’s supplier for a full network rollout.
