Digicel celebrates ten million milestone

30 Sep 2009

Jamaica-based, Irish-owned wireless network operator Digicel is celebrating passing the ten million subscriber landmark across 32 markets worldwide. Since launching in Jamaica in 2001, Digicel has expanded rapidly across the Caribbean, Central America and the Pacific; at the end of June it recorded 7.2 million subscribers across 24 markets in the Caribbean and El Salvador. Its businesses in Honduras and Panama added 1.4 million subscribers, while the six markets in the Pacific had accumulated a further 1.4 million customers. Colm Delves, CEO of the Digicel Group said, ‘We are delighted with our progress. Since our launch in Jamaica in 2001, we have grown to now span 32 markets worldwide and to serve over ten million customers. We have done this by ensuring that our commitment to provide the best network, best service and best value is evident in everything we do – and the way in which we do it. Delighting our customers is, and always will be, our number one priority and we would like to thank them for their ongoing loyalty to Digicel.’ According to the company, it has achieved a compound annual growth rate (in terms of subscribers) of 40% over the last two years.
