29 Sep 2009

Australian WiMAX provider Unwired has announced the remaining companies that will act as the key suppliers for the rollout of fellow Seven Network subsidiary Vivid Wireless’ WiMAX network in Perth, iTWire reports. Having already named Huawei and DragonWave as suppliers of mobile WiMAX base stations and microwave backhaul solutions respectively, Vivid has added Juniper Networks to its list of partners; Juniper will provide its MX240 core routers, J2350 edge routers for the wireless sites, EX3200 and SRX240 firewall and security appliances. Further, Optus has been selected for fibre-optic links from 15 hub sites to Vivid’s point of presence, which will be located in its Perth datacentre.

While the network will initially launch only in Perth, it is understood that Vivid plans to expand its coverage to other major cities within a short time after launch. Commenting on the expansion plans, Martin Mercer, CEO of Vivid Wireless, said: ‘After we launch in Perth it will only be a short time before we colonise the rest of the country.’
