NTT DoCoMo explores broadband opportunities in Brazil

25 Sep 2009

Japanese mobile operator NTT DoCoMo is reportedly exploring fresh opportunities to increase its presence in Brazil, with a particular focus on the country’s burgeoning broadband sector, BNamericas writes. The Japanese firm sees benefits to be made in exploiting a sector which when compared to its own domestic market is both limited and relatively slow in terms of available connection speeds. The online journal goes on to say that DoCoMo executive VP Kiyoyuki Tsujimura and Japan’s deputy communications minister Akira Terasaki have met with Brazil’s communications minister Helio Costa, and are also slated to meet with officials of national regulator Anatel. It is believed the introduction of Japan’s digital TV system in Brazil has triggered the interest of Japanese companies in the Brazilian market.
