French telecoms equipment vendor Alcatel-Lucent has been awarded a contract by Hi Link Telecom for the deployment of its greenfield wireless broadband network in Al Anbar province in western Iraq. Alcatel-Lucent’s solution will enable the operator to deliver high quality voice and broadband data services with high network capacity and performance, allowing Hi Link to respond to customers’ requirements and contribute to improving communications in the country. The deployed equipment will also offer flexibility to introduce next generation broadband wireless technologies in the future, such as Long Term Evolution (LTE). Sheikh Tarik Alabdullah, CEO of Hi Link Telecom, said: ‘We are confident that Alcatel-Lucent’s first-class products and services will allow us to quickly deliver reliable and innovative communications services in this underserved area of Iraq.’ Alcatel-Lucent will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, project management, maintenance, network optimisation and end-to-end network integration for the project. Hi Link Telecom, which is registered in Iraq and Jordan, currently provides wireless in the local loop (WiLL) CDMA 2000 telecoms services to the main cities and all populated centres in Al Anbar province through a specific service provision licence granted by Iraq’s Ministry of Communications (MoC).
