According to a report by local daily Kuwait Times, which cites official sources, the Ministry of Communications (MoC) has decided that new regulations will be required for the issuance of internet service provider (ISP) licences. The regulations will aim to open the licensing process to all interested parties and remove the need for public tenders. The MoC has refused the requests of current ISPs that licences should be offered through an auction and should be limited to a certain number. A team led by communications undersecretary Abdulmohsen Al-Mazaidi has completed a month-long review of the licensing procedure and is expected to advise the Minister, Dr. Mohammed Al-Busairi, on licensing regulations in the next week. The new regulations are expected to be announced within the next two weeks.
