MIC receives two MVNO licence applications

24 Sep 2009

Privately-owned ISP the Corporation for Financing and Promoting Technology (FPT Telecom) and state-run Vietnam Multimedia Corporation (VTC) have applied for a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) licence from the country’s Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), local news source VietNamNet reports. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, the MIC approved VTC’s application to provide MVNO services in April 2009, but so far the multimedia company and licensed WiMAX operator has not been granted the relevant licence. The following August the ministry granted the country’s first MVNO permit to Indochina Telecom, which will share 3G network facilities with military-owned cellco Viettel, one of the country’s seven mobile network operators. Indochina plans to start offering mobile services in the first quarter of 2010.
