Georgia’s National Communications Commission (GNCC) has announced it will hold an auction for licences to provide mobile services in the GSM-1800 and IMT2000 frequency ranges, following a request from Canadian telecoms company DataWave. The regulator has set an initial price of around GEL7.35 million (USD4.37 million) for the GSM-1800 spectrum permit, while the starting cost of the IMT2000 licence has been set at GEL12.74 million. The registration deadline for participants is 5 October 2009; both auctions will be held on 23 October.
