MTN threatens to block calls made by Rwandatel users

16 Sep 2009

MTN Rwanda says it may block calls made to its network by Rwandatel’s 280,000 customers due to the latter’s failure to pay interconnection fees. According to AllAfrica.com, citing local press, Rwandatel is legally obliged to pay RWF40 (USD0.07) to MTN for every call made from a Rwandatel line to MTN, something which it has failed to do for more than eight months. Officials at MTN have so far refused to comment, saying only that negotiations are ongoing with both Rwandatel and the Rwanda Utilities and Regulatory Authority (RURA).
