According to ArabianBusiness.com, Saudi WiMAX operator Bayanat Al-Oula has announced that it has launched its mobile data platform in five additional markets; Jubaul, Hafr Al-Batin, Sakaka, Ar’ar and Khafji. Bayanat, the data arm of mobile operator Mobily, said that all tests on the network were complete and the second phase of the WiMAX rollout was underway. The firm has already introduced the service to the major cities of Riyadh, Jeddah, Khobar, Dammam, Hafuf and Al-Mobarraz. As reported by CommsUpdate in June 2009, Bayanat contracted Samsung for the network deployment in a USD100 million deal. The company hopes to have launched the service in 20 cities by the end of 2009.
