Finnish vendor Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) has announced that it has completed the implementation of a next generation network (NGN) for Israeli fixed line incumbent Bezeq. Under the terms of the contract the two companies had agreed NSN provide Bezeq with its Multi Service Access Nodes (MSANs), which are capable of handling both voice and broadband services on a single technical platform. The vendor also provided network management tools, as well as hardware and software care services under the deal.
With the new infrastructure in place Bezeq has said it is now ready to offer an expanded range of converged multimedia services, including IPTV and videoconferencing, with broadband downlink speeds on offer increasing to up to 50Mbps. Commenting on the upgrade, Yuval Keinan, Bezeq’s chief technical offer, said: ‘Our company is focused on offering customers an unsurpassed broadband experience and to do that we had to adopt the most advanced technologies and services. With NGN defined as our main area of future investment, NSN’s technical excellence, combined with its local knowledge and installed base, made it an ideal partner for us.’
