Vodafone launches VDSL pilot in Heilbronn

Vodafone Germany has begun marketing its VDSL services in the city of Heilbronn in the federal state of Baden-Wurttemberg, according to German internet news source onlinekosten.de, citing a Vodafone spokesman. The pilot VDSL project was launched in mid-August in cooperation with incumbent telco Deutsche Telekom (DT), although Vodafone plans to launch a similar project in Wurzburg within the next few weeks. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, a total of 50,000 households in Heilbronn will be provided with broadband internet access at speeds of up to 50Mbps. Vodafone is responsible for the construction of the Heilbronn network, while in Wurzburg DT has assumed responsibility for network rollout.
