Telecoms generated USD780m in 2008

The Georgian National Communications Commission (GNCC) has reported that turnover in the country’s telecoms market amounted to GEL1.312 billion (USD781 million) in 2008, up from GEL1.114 billion a year earlier. Mobile operators generated the lion’s share of revenues in the entire sector, GEL830.8 million or 63.3%, while fixed line operators contributed GEL381 million, or 29% of the total, and TV and radio broadcasters 7.7%. According to the regulator’s report, Georgia’s telecoms market accounted for 6.9% of the country’s GDP in 2008, against 6.6% in a year earlier.
