Motorola Israel calls for final MIRS bids by mid-September

7 Sep 2009

Motorola Israel expects those companies interested in bidding for its iDEN subsidiary MIRS Communications to submit final offers by the middle of September, Globes Online reports. All three of Israel’s mobile operators – Pelephone, Cellcom and Partner Communications – have announced plans to bid for MIRS, despite opposition from the Israeli Ministry of Communication (MoC). According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, a fourth company had been mentioned in relation with the sale of MIRS. Shamrock Holdings, the investment arm of the Walt Disney company, had expressed an interest, but ruled out a bid in July 2009, saying it was waiting to examine developments in the market following a proposed sale of a stake in Partner by its then-owner Hutchison Telecommunications International (HTIL); subsequently handset distributor Scailex Corp announced that it had inked a deal to acquire a 51.31% stake in Partner last month.
