Vimpelcom's Dominanta to launch Moscow DVB-H mobile TV network in 4Q

4 Sep 2009

Russian regional terrestrial TV operator Dominanta, a subsidiary of the country’s second largest mobile operator Vimpelcom, will launch its DVB-H mobile TV broadcasting network in Moscow and the surrounding region in October or soon after, reports Telecompaper. Dominanta plans to begin test services following approval from the State Committee on Frequencies, whilst IT firm ATDI Eurasia has helped it identify optimal locations for 35 base stations. Meanwhile, Vimpelcom is negotiating with handset providers to launch DVB-H capable devices. Last month the Russian authorities gave the go-ahead for subsidiaries of three companies – Sistema (parent of leading cellco MTS), Vimpelcom and WiMAX operator Skartel (Yota) – to launch DVB-H services in the capital by the end of the year.
