AEC reports success in number portability scheme

3 Sep 2009

Macedonia’s Agency for Electronic Communications (AEC) says that since the introduction of fixed and mobile number portability on 1 September 2008, a total of 16,471 people have used the service. Broken down, 12,499 fixed telephony users have opted to switch their number to a new service provider while 3,972 mobile users have also taken advantage of the new regime. Commenting on the development, AEC spokesperson Marjan Pejkovski said that the country had successfully reached the average of 2.75% of numbers transferred from the former monopoly provider to alternative operators ‘much faster than it is usual’ when compared with European norms for fixed line telephony services.
