Govt seeks review of NP ruling

1 Sep 2009

The government of Argentina has asked the country’s Supreme Court to review a ruling which ordered the state to legislate number portability (NP), writes BNamericas citing local paper Infobae. In July of this year Argentina’s Fifth National Administrative Court ruled that NP be regulated within 90 days, but according to the government, the decision to legislate NP must be made by the executive branch and not by the judicial. Decree 764 introduced in 2000 first approved NP, but the option for subscribers to change service provider while keeping their existing numbers was never enacted. When approved, the country’s telecoms regulator, Secretaria de Comunicaciones (SeCom), will be responsible for the implementation of NP.
