Nostracom and Aperto ink WiMAX rollout deal

27 Aug 2009

Spanish fixed-wireless operator Nostracom Telecommunicaciones has selected US-based Aperto Networks to deploy a WiMAX solution to create a high speed network offering internet access at speeds of up to 20Mbps, as well as VoIP services. It is understood that the network will cover the Andalusia provinces of Almeria, Granada, Jaen and Malaga, and will utilise Aperto’s PacketMax solution, which the vendor claims simplifies network deployment and lowers installation costs. Commenting on the development, Antonio Tejada, general director of Nostracom, said: ‘Choosing Aperto as our partner allows us to leverage their extensive experience and proven capabilities in delivering a low cost of implementation, greater coverage and a powerful high speed connection for our partners and customers.’ No financial details of the deal were disclosed.

In separate but related news, Canadian wireless broadband equipment provider Tranzeo Wireless Technologies has announced that, as the exclusive supplier of subscriber units to Aperto for the latter’s PacketMAX product, it will provide its WiMAX subscriber units to Nostracom as part of the deal between Aperto and the Spanish operator.
