VTN opts for Alcatel-Lucent IP, optical solutions

French equipment vendor Alcatel-Lucent has announced it has signed two contracts with Vietnam Telecom National (VTN), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications (VNPT), to upgrade the operator’s network. Alcatel-Lucent will provide its IP and optical solutions enabling VTN to meet the increased capacity requirements driven by new service demands. ‘The backbone network is critical as we proceed with our IP transformation,’ said Duong Van Trieu, director of VTN, adding, ‘Alcatel-Lucent’s portfolio offers unmatched performance and advanced service-oriented features, making it the ideal choice as we roll out a new of generation services.’ The vendor will provide its IP/MPLS solutions, including the 7750 Service Router (SR) and the 5620 Service Aware Manager (SAM), enabling scalability, bandwidth on demand and increased service level guarantees. Leveraging its packet optical transport and Zero Touch Photonics offering, Alcatel-Lucent will also supply its 1850 Transport Service Switch (1850 TSS) and 1830 Photonic Service Switch (1830 PSS). Operating at 40Gbps, the solution will allow VTN to respond to end-user needs faster and more efficiently while minimising capital and operational expenditures.
