US-based Zhone Technologies has announced that Lebanon’s state-owned incumbent national telecoms operator Organisme de Gestion et d’Exploitation de l’ex Radio Orient (Ogero Telecom) has chosen it as its preferred IP access equipment provider. Ogero has selected Zhone equipment to support several expansion and upgrade projects, including public Wi-Fi access across Beirut and nationwide ADSL2+, EFM and VDSL2 deployments. According to a press release, Ogero has already rolled out services to over 75% of the country’s DSL subscriber base using Zhone’s MALC multi-service access platforms (MSAPs) and 8800 IP DSLAMs. Ogero’s fixed network reaches 95% of Lebanese territory and serves more than 650,000 subscribers.
