Liberty not giving free ride to SME rivals

25 Aug 2009

Puerto Rican triple-play cable network operator Liberty Cablevision, a unit of US-based Liberty Global, has launched a new range of services for business users to directly compete with Centennial de Puerto Rico and Puerto Rico Telephone Company (PRT) which between them currently account for 75% of the island’s corporate telecoms market, reports BNamericas. On 19 August the cableco announced it was launching new services aimed at SMEs including hosted services, VPNs, data communications and an e-payment service. Liberty’s subscriber base currently includes only approximately 5% business users, but it plans to invest USD25 million in enterprise services over the next five years and aims to offer its services to 7,000 companies in a year. The company has reached agreements with Avaya, Evertec, McAfee and Motorola as equipment suppliers.
