VATM, Breko VDSL access talks with DT end unsuccessfully

24 Aug 2009

The German Competitive Carriers Association (VATM) and German broadband providers association Breko have failed to come to an agreement with the country’s incumbent telco Deutsche Telekom (DT) over access to its VDSL network, according to Breko. The association’s CEO Dr. Stephan Albers and VATM CEO Juergen Grutzner criticised DT’s lack of cooperation on the matter and called for Germany’s network regulator, the Federal Network Agency (FNA), to develop a framework with fair and competitive prices to provide incentives to invest in further broadband expansion. Alternative operators require an agreement for access to the incumbent’s VDSL network to deploy their own service. According to CommsUpdate, local telecoms operator Vodafone Germany and ISP 1&1 successfully negotiated VDSL resale deals with DT in July of this year.
