German regional telecoms operator NetCologne has announced plans to deploy a new fibre-optic network in the city of Siegburg in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Dubbed ‘CityNetSiegburg’, the new fibre-to-the-building (FTTB) network will enable bandwidth of up to 100Mbps, allowing the operator to offer services such as high speed internet, IPTV, video on demand and high-definition (HD) television. The company has invested around EUR9 million (USD12.7 million) in the construction of the new network, which will commence towards the end of 2009.
