Indosat first-half financial stable, but subscribers down

Indonesia’s second largest mobile operator by users, PT Indosat, yesterday reported its unaudited results for the six months ended 30 June 2009, showing a steady financial performance despite a dip in its overall subscriber base. The operator, which is majority controlled by Qtel, posted a first-half net profit of IDR1.01 trillion (USD101.4 million), compared with IDR1.06 trillion in the same period a year ago. Operating revenue climbed to IDR8.92 trillion in 1H09, from IDR8.83 trillion in the January-June period a year earlier. However, the operator’s overall mobile base fell to 28.9 million as at 30 June, down 10.9% from a year ago.
