DBCDE calls for submissions to Digital Regions Initiative

20 Aug 2009

Australia’s communications minister, Stephen Conroy, has called for proposals from companies seeking funding under the Digital Regions Initiative, iTWire reports. The initiative was set up to fund projects which will deliver applications for education, health and emergency services over the to-be-built National Broadband Network (NBN); the government has set aside approximately AUD54 million (USD44.58 million) for the fund. The Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy (DBCDE) has issued the final guidelines for applicants, and it is understood that proposals require a collaborative approach from the private sector and government bodies, while those seeking funding must also be willing to match the investment granted to them by the state. The closing date for expressions of interest is 14 September 2009.
