Chinese cellcos to spend USD66 billion on 3G over next three years

Interfax China, quoting a statement made by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), reports that the country’s 3G licensees – China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom – will spend RMB450 billion (USD66 billion) on the deployment of next generation networks and services by the end of 2012. The Minister of Industry and Information Technology, Li Yizhong, said that the ministry is confident about China’s homegrown TD-SCDMA standard and that it has already begun to explore 4G technologies.
