German cableco Unitymedia has posted revenue from its cable operations of EUR231 million (USD327 million) in the three months ended 30 June 2009, up 11% year-on-year. The company’s adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) for the second quarter of 2009 rose 13% compared with the same period a year earlier, reaching EUR111 million. CAPEX for the cable segment increased from EUR49 million in Q2 2008 to EUR61.3 million in the same period of 2009. Revenue from the internet business increased from EUR13.2 million in the quarter ended 30 June 2008 to EUR23 million a year later, thanks to strong take-up of triple-play ‘Unity3play’ services in an increasing number of upgraded regions, while revenue from the telephony business increased from EUR12 million in the second quarter of 2008 to EUR17.5 million in the quarter ended 30 June 2009.
Meanwhile, the cableco’s ‘New Services’ customers, comprising subscriptions to internet, telephony and digital TV offerings, increased by 44% year-on-year to reach 1.76 million at 30 June 2009. The total of revenue generating units (RGUs) in Unitymedia’s retail broadband division climbed 79% year-on-year to 496,000, while wholesale RGUs leapt 85% to 307,000. Telephony RGUs totalled 490,000 at 30 June 2009, up 87% year-on-year, although digital pay TV RGUs fell 9% compared with Q2 2008 to reach 469,000. ‘New Services’ RGUs represent 27.9% of all total RGUs at 30 June 2009, compared to 20.6% the year before.
