Azerbaijan fixes 3G tax

10 Aug 2009

Azeri news source Azerbaijan Business Center reports that the government has set AZN11,000 (USD13,678) as the rate of state tax charged for the licensing of 3G connections. The report adds that this move represents the removal of the last restriction for the provision of third generation services in Azerbaijan. According to TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies (MCIT) is planning to distribute frequencies required for third generation services in the near future, with the aim of enabling cellcos to launch commercially by the end of 2009. All three of Azerbaijan’s GSM operators – Azercell, Bakcell and Azerfon (Nar Mobile) – have applied for a licence to launch 3G services.
